Post-modern a term brandished about a lot these days no more so by my good self. Recently I gave an assembly in my old high school and I looked simply at the verse ‘Taste and see that the Lord is Good’ and it struck me what a post-modern statement. In a culture today were people are so into testers, previews, freebies, try before you buy?As consumers we always ask ourselves is this product worth it? How will it benefit me? Is it value for money? Is it any good? I heard it was rubbish? Here father God is saying Come try me and you will realise I am good, and I’m not what you’ve heard!
Its amazing the preconceptions and the stereotypes people have on what they think God is? Church and Christian life? Many have had bad experiences in churches our through contact with Christians that haven’t practiced what they preached, or more to the point: what the Bible preaches! But in this verse God is calling us to lay aside our stereotypical ideas and what are friends have told us the past hurts we hold on to and even what people might think, and taste and see?
I asked had anyone in the assembly hall that day “had anyone ever tasted Irn Bru?”, and one little boy placed his hand up in the back row.
Irn Bru is Scotland national fizzy drink for those who don’t know, and is the only drink in the world that outsells Coca Cola. Only in Scotland though!
This guy came to the Front and for the first time in front of a few hundred of his peers tasted Irn Bru: End Result: The boy loved it actually, he liked it that much I got slightly concerned that it might be the start of an addiction to the Bru!
But he would never have known whether it was good or not unless he actually made a conscious decision to try! To Taste and See, to give it a go?
God promises taste him and you will see that God is good.Gods word applies today and is applicable to the post-modern generation!

Balance and Discipline
Been thinking and struggling with balance recently. No my legs havent given way and no I'm not writing this consumed with to much alcohol! But as many of you know I have recently moved backed to Northern Ireland from Scotland to study theology at Source and join the staff team at Christian fellowship church as a youthworker, sharing an office with 4 other creative dudes including my sister! But trying to fit back into to life, building new friendship creating new projects, studying Im just trying to make sure I get the balance right! Ive have recently joined a local Gym of which Ive to get to yet! But i felt the need to loose some weight and excercise the muscle that is my heart! So all these things are adding to my little diary, as well as the challenge of making sure time with God is priority and hearing his voice, and soaking in his presence. Balance and discipline I think are the key... but procrasination and laziness at time set in. As well as late night films( they seem good at the time!) Anyhows my challenge is balance, getting in routine and being habitutal about organising my life!Delirious!
I have seen these guys countless times over the last number of years, but I always come away inspired and motivated to see more of Christ in my life, and a desire to be a blessing through my ministry to people just as these guys have. Some would say they compromise too much, others they are past their best, but these guys have been part of a God planned revolution to inspire and motivate new generations in worship and in living a life sold out for Jesus! To stand firm on the promises of God in world thats everchanging!
Getting quite excited writing this now! Will blog later let you know how it went!
Ok really to need get ready and do some greek!

The Way I See It #92"You are not an accident. Your parents may not have planned you, but God did. He wanted you alive and created you for a purpose. PIMP MY JOELS PLACE

Last night was one of our first sessions with the project formerly known as Joels Place. Mark and Myself and a great bunch of leaders set up a wee session called pimp my joels place, where young people in the area came together to give their views on what type of things they would like to see happen for young people in the area. Xbox's, group work, Free Ice Cream, 20 mins of the Northern Ireland footie match and loads of pool formed in the end a great night
I must admit i was a bit nervous first night loads of leaders, I was praying that at least 3/4 young people would turn up. God is great over 20 young people turned up and really got involved responded really well to the activities! The leaders were great getting stuck in and using the session to connect and engage with the young people through the various activities! Overall a great first session, lets pray that God will continue to use and grow this ministry!
Thanks to all the leaders who helped, Including Mark and Vic, awesome guys!

Encouragement
Encouragement is something that drives me to inspire and motivate others and to do my best, but at times in Christian life its something we don't seem to come across that often. Encouragement I would say is something that we all need, and desire.
Some of the encouragements I've found so far while surfing the net have really blessed me and encouraged me to keep going, and to keep waiting on the Lord and he will do more amazing things in me and through me.
I want to encourage you and me to seek out more encouraging words, and actions towards our friends and relatives, pastors, church staff, and the community around us. Words and actions that speak love, integrity and honesty. How annoying is it when people share lame words of encouragement with you that have no depth! For example "you have done well"? How? "that was good"! in what way?Y ou get what I mean.(I hope) I wish I could be more creative in the way I encourage, because honestly its an area in my life that I find I fail to be effective in! Although that is not my intended out come.
In summary I think I long to be more of a creative encourager you inspires and motivates people! I thank the lord for creative encouragers and for the ones who inspire and motivate me, sometimes without even knowing it.
"Some Recent encouragements I have found"
Yes I confess. I was one of those who having waited hours for the American Team to show up for practice at the Ryder Cup yesterday, booed them. Why? They didn't tee off at the first as we expected and just did nine holes of mucking about. Disgraceful, outrageous, disgusting, rude discourteous, crass, arrogant..I could go on and I did until Priscilla said "get over it!"
The things we get upset about. I had to wait for an hour [I know I said hours but it feels like that when you are waiting.] AAAhhhh waiting. How we hate waiting for anything especially when we are waiting for God to come through.
You know it wasn't that bad. I spent the time talking one of our new Youth Pastors, Colin. What a star. The ideas and dreams he has to see young people touched by God. He inspired me. And we enjoyed the fresh air and the beautiful Kildare countryside. I had a double sausage and bacon butty. You know it was a great time of waiting! I'm sounding like those two old guys on the Muppets who used to shout insults at the show.
But when we finally get it, that waiting is part of God working in our lives to produce something beautiful and it can be enjoyable, you relax and it feels good.
Isaiah 41:31 They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength...
Come on Europe and bless our wee Darren Clarke.

NEW STARTS
The office is getting too small! today we have new desks arriving as there are some changes to staffing in the youth dept. Tim has left (somewhere in between Brasil & USA), Colin Stitt has taken over his role. Colin has returned from Stirling where he ran a youth cafe project to pursue a theology degree thru SOURCE. we are fortunate to have bagged his skills and experience, he will be a real bonus on developing our wider youth curriculum. Mark McFetters has also just started, this is an exciting new project with our friends over in West Belfast YOUTH INITIATIVES. Mark's remit is to develop a project for 15-18's unchurched young people in East Belfast and allow them to build cross-community links with catholic young people in West Belfast. One of my goals when i started the post 4 years ago was to build the team up to 5 youth workers - now we are there! really looking forward to the year ahead and seeing how we can bless and inpact young people in our part of the city

Karma vs the Cross
This got me thinking... As christians random acts of kindness have something we have encourgaed over the last number of years, to do things we wouldnt normally do for the sake of demonstrating Gods love. How does what we do as Christians weigh up against the Radio1 Listner handing out flowers to randoms! In an effort to address the positive balance of Karma?
Obviously as Christians we do not believe in Karma as such, but we believe that its because Jesus paid the ultimate penalty for us on the Cross, that we are saved! Our salvation is by grace and not works!, yet James says without Works our Faith is Dead.
My thoughts
Random Acts of Kindness need to come from a pure heart, with the sole aim of demonstrating Father Gods heart of Love
How do we weigh Karma vs the christian principle of sowing and reeping?
Just some intial thoughts on this subject, I think I need to put some more thought into it? The youth Department, here is planning an mini street reach at the end of October! I wonder how people on the Street will react, will they see this as a balancing act of Karma our the Outpouring of Gods Love, through his holy spirit!
I know what I'm praying for!

Emotional Rollercoaster
In the words of ronan keating... "life is a roller coaster you just got to ride it"Emabarrased quoting ronan keating lyrics, but life recently has been a bit of an emotional rolleroaster. My last service at Stirling Baptist being a very emotional one, with the Father Barrie leading the tear jerker! Can i just take the chance to say thankyou so much to everyone for their words of support encouragement, cards and pressies ive been totally overwhelmed and blessed to the max.
At the moment im currently at home trying to work out if i still have friends in this country? and emotionally transist from life in stirling to east belfast.
Yours prayers at this time would be greatly appreciated, heres some prayer pointers!
- Please pray for the transition in moving back, emotionally Ive found this very difficult please pray for Gods peace in this area.
- pray for my family who have to put up with me and what my dad currently describes as 'beruit' (our house currently bombarded with the contents of my house in stirling)
- for connections with old and new friends and settling in to life in east belfast again.
- pray for the work im about to start in CFC and the course in theology and leadership, that God may open doors of opportunities and give us vision and wisdom to discern his plan and that I may be disciplined in time and study.
Ok i think thats enough arrows, for the throne room just now!
Guys thanks for your support and prayers

PSALM 119 v 65-72
65You have done many good things for me, LORD,
just as you promised.
66
I believe in your commands;
now teach me good judgment and knowledge.
67
I used to wander off until you disciplined me;
but now I closely follow your word.
68
You are good and do only good;
teach me your principles.
69
Arrogant people have made up lies about me,
but in truth I obey your commandments with all my heart.
70
Their hearts are dull and stupid,
but I delight in your law.
71
The suffering you sent was good for me,
for it taught me to pay attention to your principles.
72
Your law is more valuable to me
than millions in gold and silver!

Review to follow...
Christians Baptisms and technology
My good friend Rev KJ Bleakley former Ulsterman is the minister there. Great to see all the family there and to see what God is doing in the lives of people n Larbert. We heard an amazing testimony from the women whos was getting baptised about how God never let her go and constantly pursued her until she finally let him in and her testimony was of how the Jesus had totally transformed her life
Anyhows she was baptised in one of the deepest baptismal pools in Scotland I kid you not! Just wish i had some photos! Put it like this is would need arm bands and a rubber ring just to get me in that pool due to the fear of drowning.
So getting to my point... What amazes me everywhere i go, is how mental christians are when it comes to baptisms and technology!
They are desperate to make sure every sees it, via vidoe links on camcorders and hear whats going on... here it comes. So they get a mic on a boom stand and place it near to the people in the baptismal pool as possible, I reckon some people would just send them in with a radio mic at times.
Sunday night I was sitting watching this baptism in pure fear for the women who had just testified to the lord transforming her life and my friend Ken who is the minister who was baptising he.
The mic they had placed on this boom stand dangled over the baptism pool into the centre where the two where to pic up what they were saying and praying, boy i was praying!
My fear for their lives grew! In case your not aware Live microphones and water dont really go together that well!! Unless your planning a one way ticket to meet your maker!
Through prayer and intercession from the back the microphone stayed peacefully on its boom stand and the baptism went through without a glitch and was a great night for every one there.
I dont think anyone else apart from Kerry sitting beside me was aware of the potential risk had that microphone decide it too needed baptised!
Just a word, be careful O chrisitans!

Royal Mail strike to go onDemand for industrial relations review
By Debra Douglas08 February 2006
The Royal Mail strike was continuing last night despite protesting workers being urged to call off their week-long wildcat action by a union leader.Ray Ellis, a national officer from the Communication Workers' Union, held a meeting with staff yesterday to encourage them to go back to work but strikers refused to return until their demand for a full independent industrial relations review is met.
But at the same time he said Royal Mail should agree to a review of employee relations. "We are doing our best to get our people back. Royal Mail need to respond," he said.
A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: "This is not the outcome we and our customers had hoped for. We need to establish why the national CWU officials have been unable to achieve a return to work."
Several hundred striking postal workers then staged a march along the Shankill Road and Falls Road before parading through Belfast city centre.
Sinn Fein MLA Michael Ferguson crossed the "peace line" to join the workers.
Addressing the crowd, he said: "The request by postal workers is very reasonable it merely asks for an independent review of disciplinary procedures and they have even agreed to accept the outcome."
UUP East Belfast MLA Michael Copeland called on Royal Mail management to instigate an open and independent review of employee and industrial relations to resolve the ongoing dispute.
Meanwhile, concerns about the impact of the strike deepened following the decision by Royal Mail to suspend its special delivery services "with immediate effect". Mail posted in Belfast will not be delivered or processed and mail posted in Northern Ireland for delivery outside the province will not be dispatched.
However, as the mail centre is still operational, post is getting to the rest of Northern Ireland.
But the watchdog Postwatch said it wanted to see Royal Mail do more to advise customers about what was happening.
Postal strike is hit by sinister twistMail crisis deepens as unions fall out
By Deborah McAleese and Sam McBride08 February 2006
The postal crisis deepened today with strikers steadfastly refusing to return to work amid allegations of sinister threats to a colleague and a fallout among the two unions involved.
Police today confirmed they received a report of a "suspicious" phone call to a member of staff at Royal Mail who had refused to join the strike.
A police spokeswoman said: "Police are aware of a report of a suspicious phone call that was received by a member of staff at the Royal Mail on February 1. It was reported to police for information."
Union officials said they were unaware of the alleged incident, but added that if it is true then it is "concerning."
There is also growing concern over the financial implications of the unofficial strike on postal workers and their families, but union officials said that the strikers remain adamant that they will not be returning to work until Royal Mail agrees to carry out an independent industrial relations review.
Communication Workers Union (CWU) Eoin Davey said: "If reports of the alleged phone call are true then of course I would be concerned. We would condemn any threats and have asked everyone to act sensibly. Allegations like these are putting a dark cloud over the postmen who have received so much good community report.
"We had a meeting with them this morning to urge them to go back to work as this is an unofficial strike but they are adamant that they will not be returning until Royal Mail agrees to their reasonable request."
Mr Davey today added that his union was planning to meet with the general secretary of the GMB to voice his anger at a letter which was sent to strikers.
The letter from a representative of the union GMB, which represents around 20 Royal Mail workers, stated that the strike was "sinister" and "the worst example of senseless action I have ever witnessed."
Mr Davey said the CWU has contacted the general secretary of the GMB asking him to repudiate the comments.
Meanwhile, one striker, who did not want to be named, said he is beginning to feel the financial strain.
Speaking from the picket line at Tomb Street, the 39 year-old from west Belfast added: "It is very difficult financially. It is definitely starting to bite but there is a real principle at stake here. We haven't done this lightly. I always taught my daughter to stand up to bullies so I have to stand up to the bullies here."
The strike, which initially disrupted post in north, south and west Belfast is now beginning to affect the rest of the province with the suspension of Royal Mail's special delivery service. Also, no mail posted in Northern Ireland is being delivered outside Ulster.
Financial repercussions are beginning to hit small businesses which rely on the postal service to deliver goods as well as to send and receive payments.
Postal services watchdog Postwatch said it has written to Royal Mail asking management to do more to advise customers about what was happening and what they should be doing to reduce the inconvenience caused by the strike.

Ok So happy Birthday to Mrs Mcilwaine who turns 30 sorry I mean 25 today...but actually its just turned 12:01 so its now officially my birthday Mental!!
For those of you who engaged and met with with God on Sunday Night you Rock. I had the priviledge of leading our youth group RIOT in worship on Sunday night with ma boys Mal and Dave. We decided that our house band Cara, Dave, Ali, and Pete needed a wee rest after a three week stint. But no fear they will be back with avengence next week!
Afters led to loud late night worship, even managed to crank up my Vox to 3 on master, Mr Barrie was obviously not there... love ya Davey!!!
It was followed by an all night superbowl party which the steelers hamered sorry Ceri the poor boys from seattle.
Today I spent in Glasgow with Kerry shopping! Mental that girl managed to spend massive amounts of money on really cool shoes, but like three pairs of shoes could of easily amounted to five but for the lack of size 9s available in Glasgow! But we had fun and a tremendous day where we got to share and be blessed.
So what Lies ahead this week!!! Just sitting looking at the Cast accounts and Mr Rons notes and will be forwarding him some stuff tomorrow. I have to present the summer opening report officially today to Stirling Youth Parntership outlining some of our plans for the summer ahead. So your prayer are greatly needed.
Ahead this months lies the challenge of finding new volunteers for the cafe, trying to affiliate Cast with Project Scotland in the search for volunteers, find a valentine for valentines day, Ceri turned me down although I did ask but shes says she digs Malcolm for Valentines... Your in there mate!!!
The year of the stitt will continue with my sister making her way across the water on Saturday so that should be fun just hope she remembers my birthday present. Looking foward to seeing her having withdrawels symptoms havent seen her in like mmmm let me think a whole week...
